Urban Flooding of Greater Dhaka in a Changing Climate: Building Local Resilience to Disaster Risk

Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) has organized a seminar on “Urban Flooding of Greater Dhaka in a Changing Climate”. The Guest Speaker of the event was Dr. Susmita Das Gupta, Lead Environmental Economist, Environment and Energy Team, Development Research Group, The World Bank. She mentioned one crucial point that climate change was not the only actual reason for flooding, but if unplanned development continues, climate change will raise the damages of urban flooding and in terms of money, it will be a big amount. Lastly she shared few strategies and tactics if followed, then flooding could be reduced. These include rooftop gardening which absorbs most of the rain water as well as installation of pump stations. It was a very informative session and well attended by ULAB students.
